SONGWRITING WORKSHOP
(runs at Cranleigh Arts Centre)
Sharon and Eleanore Duggan run a songwriting workshop not to be missed by aspiring songwriters.
This workshop will help you to learn:
· How songs are structured
· How to develop melody and lyrics
· Developing instrumentation, harmony and dynamics
· Performance and Production
· Songwriting mistakes
We will then endeavour to compose a song and produce it. We will also consider the importance of modern production techniques and the importance of performance, as well as discussing the components of a good song eg. structure, dynamics, hooks, melody, instrumentation, harmony etc.
Please bring along any instruments that you play so that they can be incorporated as necessary into the song that you compose. We will then perform the song at the end of the workshop.
Length of workshop:
10am - 4.30pm (1 day)
Open to:
Aspiring songwriters
Fee:
£30 for the day.
Singer; Singing & Performance teacher

Performance Opportunities for students
Sharon has been providing exciting performance opportunities for her students since 2001. These have been proper performances with paying audiences and have included:
- supporting students towards individual showcase performances eg. at Cranleigh Arts Centre, at nearby Sayers Croft, in local pubs;
- The Big Night Out with Bells On - please see the page on The Big Night Out with Bells On and look at the gallery page for pictures from some of the past shows;
- individual students also have the opportunity to perform in "The Cranleigh Contemporary Choir.......and friends" concerts which take place twice a year - at Christmas and in the summer
Students obviously also have the opportunity to get up and perform in workshops and on courses (and Sharon never makes anybody perform if they don't want to) but for those who are keen to experience the excitement of a real performance, it's important to be able to offer real audiences, in real performance venues in addition to singing in front of other students.
The choir also of course perform regularly: they've performed for the past two years at the Christmas lights ceremony in Stocklund Square, Cranleigh as well as being invited to perform at The Big Night Out with Bells On and a local rehabilitation hospital.
