SONGWRITING WORKSHOP
(runs at Cranleigh Arts Centre)
Sharon and Eleanore Duggan run a songwriting workshop not to be missed by aspiring songwriters.
This workshop will help you to learn:
· How songs are structured
· How to develop melody and lyrics
· Developing instrumentation, harmony and dynamics
· Performance and Production
· Songwriting mistakes
We will then endeavour to compose a song and produce it. We will also consider the importance of modern production techniques and the importance of performance, as well as discussing the components of a good song eg. structure, dynamics, hooks, melody, instrumentation, harmony etc.
Please bring along any instruments that you play so that they can be incorporated as necessary into the song that you compose. We will then perform the song at the end of the workshop.
Length of workshop:
10am - 4.30pm (1 day)
Open to:
Aspiring songwriters
Fee:
£30 for the day.

The voice is a musical instrument, just like the piano or guitar - so if you’re really interested in developing good vocal technique, then you need individual tuition - groups won’t do this for you - and you will need to practise!
Sharon is an experienced singing teacher with a sound classical training, but is also able to expertly teach a diverse range of musical styles, ranging from rock, pop, r’n’b to folk, musical theatre and classical singing. She teaches teenage boys and girls, singer/songwriters, vocalists in bands, guitarists who want to learn to accompany themselves, people wanting to join or already in choirs, people wanting to undertake a formal classical training, people just wanting help with their voices, people who just want to learn something about singing for enjoyment, people who want to find out if they can sing at all! - Everyone has a different reason for wanting lessons - so do ring to discuss your needs.
Sharon is also experienced at helping students prepare for performances as part of their GCSE music. She is expert at helping overcome vocal problems which are generally due to tension, lack of breathing technique and bad mouth shapes.
“I really enjoy my individual singing lessons with Sharon, she provides a very comfortable atmosphere for developing my voice. Sharon has also helped me to become more confident in my overall performance, I no longer feel like a rabbit in the headlights whilst on stage” Emma Bamford
"Sharon's highly professional but friendly approach has been a major contribution to improving our daughter's singing skills to a significantly higher standard and building her overall confidence"
Dr Malcolm and Jennifer Parry, Godalming
I’ve had singing lessons with a few teachers over the years, and I can honestly say that I’ve learned and improved more in the past six months with Sharon than I ever did with other teachers. She knows her stuff!” Sarah Davies
“As far as I’m concerned, the combination of a classical training and working as a session singer/contemporary singer, set Sharon apart as a teacher. I’ve gained so much confidence, and I now understand why I had problems with technique and am working to overcome them. Plus, I’ve never had a question she wasn’t able to answer fully.” David Johnston
Sharon gives individual tuition from her home in Cranleigh, Surrey

Individual Performance Tuition
Performance is an integral part of singing, and some students just want to come to prepare for a particular performance or audition. Sharon is also happy to help children to develop their performance skills and has helped many to sing solos to a much higher standard in school concerts and productions as well as helping adult students with their own performance projects.
