Courses & Workshops
The Singing & Performance Course or 1 day workshop
Sharon has been running Singing and Performance courses since 2002 (click on gallery for pictures from past student showcases). The steady stream of new recruits have come mostly from word of mouth, or from witnessing the showcase performances at the end of each course. The previous course ended in The Big Night Out with Bells On. Sharon produced and directed 10 of these huge shows, which became well loved by the public and students alike.
From 2008, the Singing and Performance course is changing. The next course will start on Wednesday, 5th November and will run for 6 weeks until Wednesday, 10th December with the live performance at Cranleigh Arts Centre on Thursday, 11th December.
The course will help you to develop a range of performance skills, as well as providing some basic performance theory. So, you’re expected to start thinking about:
· what vocal techniques to use,
· how you look on stage,
· what styles of music suit your voice,
· where your strengths lie,
· how to develop roles,
· developing a repertoire of movements and vocal techniques;
· listening for cues, etc.
· working as part of a team
. microphone technique
During the course you will work on one ensemble piece which will be rehearsed up to performance standard and performed in costume on 4th December, as well as working on solos/duets and/or having a go at backing vocals (nobody is ever forced to do a solo, but about 98% of students do!)
If you decide that you'd like to have a go at doing a solo, you will be helped to choose something that suits and showcases your voice - but you will need to work on this outside of the group sessions (the course fee includes 2 individual lessons with Sharon).
Length of course
The new intake for the Singing and Performance Course starts in Nov of each year and lasts for 6 weeks (as described above). You’re welcome to put your name down for the course by contacting Sharon directly on 01483 279803 or by email to info@sharonduggan.co.uk

Students Comments:
“I don't know how she does it, but by the time Sharon's students come to perform on stage, they all sound great - and even if they are really nervous, they are so well prepared that they can overcome the nerves and just do it! I first took part in the Singing and Performing Course because, although I had sung in choirs and choruses, I had always wanted to try singing jazz solos. So with Sharon's help and encouragement, I did it, and I loved it!” Liz Markwell, Singing and Performance course student, Guildford
"I found everyone else as nervous and apprehensive as I was, but as the weeks went on my confidence grew thanks to Sharon’s style of teaching. Sharon has really helped my technique which has improved my singing ability immensely and I would like to take this opportunity to thank her for this and all the great fun and laughs we have had on the way.” Kevin, Singing & Performance Course student, Cranleigh
“Being on the course has been amazing, it’s been exciting, fun, and definitely invigorating; being in the show is always a major part of my year. On occasions, when I haven't been able to attend, I've really missed it. I find Sharon inspiring and her enthusiasm infectious.” Ray, Singing and Performance Course student, Wonersh
